Hire Desk Sales Manager

Reports to: Managing Director
Location: Units 8 & 9, The Brunel Centre, Newton Road, Crawley RH10 9TU

Purpose of Role

The Hire Desk Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth running of the Hire Desk including hiring out a range of broadcasting equipment to clients and offering “best fit” solutions for their broadcasting requirements. They will also liaise with the Business Development Manager and the Client Account Executive – Telesales, as well as the rest of the company in order to ensure the ultimate client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of hire co-ordinators from a commercial point of view, but sensitive to technical and engineering input
  • Identifying team weaknesses and training that’s required
  • Ensuring that all customers – regardless of their status – are dealt with promptly and accurately
  • Using the in-house CRM systems to maximise all opportunities and required reporting
  • Mindful of monthly, quarterly and annual targets, and instigating incentives and campaigns with the Managing Director
  • Working closely with the sales team to assess the progress of the hire desk and assist with the existing sales strategy
  • Attending weekly management meetings
  • Arrange weekly sales meetings
  • Monitor and report asset utilisation
  • Ensuring that all opportunities to maximise sales to a customer are attained
  • Advising clients on “best fit” solutions for their operational needs and subsequently providing quotes and follow-up
  • Liaising with all operational departments to assist with logistical solutions
  • Working with all departments to source and offer alternative solutions to clients requirements as necessary where the equipment is not readily available
  • Raising hire agreements, purchase orders and sales invoices and liaising with accounts to ensure documents are processed speedily
  • Pursuing new business opportunities while maintaining good business relationships with existing clients - upselling

Person Specification

  • Sales experience – reactive and proactive
  • Strong client skills via telephone and face-to-face
  • Pro-active, positive and flexible approach
  • Excellent organisational skills with an attention to detail
  • Excellent IT and numeracy skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and in a fast-paced sales environment whilst remaining calm
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy
  • Highly self-motivated, team player that thrives in a challenging and demanding environment


  • Experience of working in the broadcast sector and hire/rental department
  • An understanding and implementation of an extensive range of hire equipment (technical specifications and applications)

Special Conditions

  • The role operates on a shift basis between the hours of 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday
