Business Development Manager

A vitally important role in the ongoing growth of a globally successful production services business, the Business Development Manager will play an integral part in forwarding development plans for the business through unlocking incremental revenue opportunities. You will have a proven track record of sales and achieving agreed targets, and will be an excellent communicator and negotiator, as well as a team player.


Purpose of role

As Business Development Manager, you will report directly to the Managing Director and be responsible for the day-to-day running of broadcast relationships and new business opportunities. The Business Development Manager will work with and develop business with new accounts, major accounts, studios and broadcasters, ready equipped with strong sales experience as well as seeking out and capitalising on commercial opportunities.

Business Development Manager is responsible for

  • Managing new business and major accounts across broadcast, production, studios and audio visual companies
  • Technical project analysis and proposal development in conjunction with engineering teams
  • Maintaining long term relationships and maximising sales opportunities
  • Hiring out of a full range of broadcasting equipment to clients
  • Providing advice to major and new accounts on “best fit” solutions
  • Working closely with the Client Account Executive – Telesales, as well as the Hire Desk personnel

Duties of the Business Development Manager

  • Identify and optimise commercial and sales opportunities that deliver year-on-year profitable growth
  • Achieve personal revenue targets as agreed with the Managing Director
  • Handle customer enquiries via phone, email and in person
  • Work with potential and existing clients to develop productive working relationships in order to promote the company’s brand and service offering, understand and quantify their requirements and budgets
  • With Hire Desk, prepare proposals and quotations for provision of the company’s services in a professional manner and with clients to secure profitable business
  • Develop growth plans and sales strategies for key accounts, e.g. BBC, ITV, Sky and BT
  • The Business Development Manager will work with all areas of procurement management, across all regional and central departments, liaising with all stakeholders in the technical, sales and decision process
  • Regular visits for relationship building and encouragement of business growth
  • The Business Development Manager will attend weekly sales meetings (Monday) in the Head office or as required based on key account visit plans reviewed regularly with the Managing Director (and Client Account Executive – Telesales). Ensuring the right balance of visiting customers with road trips planned at least two weeks in advance and in conjunction with objectives and deliverables
  • Keep on top of key account customer business; identifying and investigating growth opportunities wherever possible
  • Working with procurement representatives in conjunction with senior technical staff at both key Accounts and Presteigne Broadcast Hire to ensure best fit for project opportunities across all areas of Presteigne Broadcast Hire’s equipment inventory
  • Work closely with the Client Account Executive – Telesales to ensure smooth business development and fulfilment through the Hire Desk
  • Pass on all enquiries to the internal sales team (Hire Desk) for fulfilment, i.e. quote generation and liaison with the customer through to job completion
  • Monitor and track weekly sales statistics, progress, quotas and forecasts with CRM systems (R2 and Salesforce)
  • Keep up-to-date on market trends, new products and relevant industry developments

Person Specification
Essential

  • Maintaining a long-term relationship and maximising all sales opportunities
  • Strong commercial and strategic experience, ideally in the broadcast environment
  • Strong account management and relationship building skills
  • Passionate about technology and sales
  • Experience of managing major national and regional account across all levels
  • Highly self-motivated, organised, team player that thrives in a challenging and demanding environment
  • Excellent IT and numeracy skills

Desirable

  • Broadcast and Technology contacts at all levels
